EUCTI’s NEW TECHNOLOGY-ENABLED LEARNING APPROACH
During the European New Training Initiative (ENTRi) and its successor, the European Union Civilian Training Initiative (EUCTI), Training of Trainers (ToT) emerged as one of the most requested training activities among civilian crisis management (CCM) missions. The demand stems from the need for mission personnel to develop interaction, mentoring, and training skills, which are essential for working with both internal mission members and external counterparts. The broad applicability of these skills makes them valuable across diverse contexts.
The dynamic global security landscape, marked by conflicts in Ukraine, Afghanistan, and the Sahel, has underscored the need for adaptable training formats. The combination of frequent personnel rotations, staff turnover, and the rapid evolution of digital learning technologies has made digital training an increasingly attractive solution. The pandemic has further highlighted the need for flexible, accessible training that can be delivered remotely, addressing the evolving demands of crisis management missions.
Despite the recognised benefits of digital training, such as cost-efficiency, repeatability, and the ability for participants to learn at their own pace, there has been a lack of specific guidelines for its development and delivery in the CCM context. The EUCTI project sought to fill this gap by developing a comprehensive ToT course package that equips trainers to effectively use digital tools, whether for face-to-face, hybrid, or fully online activities.
This agile package provides trainers with guidelines and tools for integrating technology and digital learning methods into their training programs, whether in-person, hybrid, or online. It aims to mainstream digital learning tools across all phases of training delivery.
